BaseCamp Portable Washing Machine Review #HGG17

I received this single tub portable washing machine,  made by Mr Heater under the brand BaseCamp, in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are 100% my own.

If you read my "A MS Warriors Christmas Wish list" post, you know that this BaseCamp portable washing machine is the first item on my list.
I was in the midst of suffering with a MS flare up that was affecting my left knee, causing it to pop out of joint and swelling. I cannot begin to describe how painful that is.

My laundry room is located in the basement and walking down a flight of stairs was impossible! Which means I was washing a lot of clothes by hand, while sitting on the edge of the bath tub. Not fun!

Don't get me started on the horrors of wringing out clothes by hand! I basically got soaked. Even though I utilized a shower chair to put buckets on, I ended up wet and miserable.

So, I decided to contact Mr Heater to see if they would let me review the BaseCamp Single Tub Washing Machine with Spinner.

All they could do was say yes or no, right?

I actually cried when they said yes and 5 days later a huge box was delivered to my front door!

This was inside...

Normally this portable washer is advertised to campers who have RV's, as it does require 120 volts to operate. That's how I learned about this BaseCamp portable washer and started wondering if it could make my life a little easier. #MSsucks

After receiving this product, I decided I would not write my review until I had really used it. I'm now 20 loads in and it is time!

The BaseCamp Single Tub Portable Washer with Spinner weighs approximately 5  pounds, making it easy to set up anywhere.

The 1st time I used it, I set it up on a shower chair so the gravity drain could empty right into the tub. I don't recommend using a shower chair that has a dip in the seat like mine does. It made the washing machine unstable during the spin cycle.

The 2nd time I used it, I set it on the counter top in the bathroom and that's where it goes every time I use it, now.

Following the instructions, I fill the washing machine with some water (approx 2 gallons) before adding clothes and then finish filling with water. I can wash 1 pair of pants, 2 shirts, 4 pair of socks and a few pair underwear - in a single load.

The system does come with an intake hose that can be hooked to a faucet. However, our faucets were made back in the 1960's and do not work with the hose. So I fill the washer using a 2 liter pitcher. This takes approximately 2 - 3 minutes to fill up to the line, demonstrated in the instructions.

I set my wash cycle on 12 minutes.
I've tried different minute cycles, 15 minutes is the longest cycle and 3 minutes is the shortest. I feel as though my clothes get the best clean on 12 minutes.

Once the clothes have finished washing, I unhook the drain hose from the side of the tub and lay the hose in the sink. It takes less than a minute for all the soapy water to drain.

I then pick up the drainage hose and click it back up to the side of the washer. I add more water to the clothes inside the washing machine and start my rinse cycle at 3 minutes. Once the rinse water drains, it's time to Spin!
This is the Spin basket.
The Spin basket comes with a lid, that you must use to keep your clothing from spinning out.

I've had to find my fit, when it comes to spinning. When I first used it, I tried to fit as much as I could into the basket. Big mistake! The basket was not packed evenly and it made a huge ruckus.

For me, Spinning small works. Small basket loads only. One adult shirt (3-4 children shirts), same for adult pants or a fourth basket of socks & underwear.

When placing the spin basket in the washer, you need to line it up with the raised ridges and push down to lock it in place. Put your clothing in the basket and make sure that it's evenly spaced and weighted.

Next you add the spin basket lid on top of the clothing inside.

It's a little difficult to see through the blue in my picture but the lid is on top of the clothing and it's spinning very fast!

While the spin cycle is activated,
You will want to keep the drain hose down. Water will drain out of the washer in a steady stream until there is no more water to be spun out.

Your clothes come out of the spin basket damp and ready to be hung up to dry.

I pushed the shower curtain rod back so it's midway directly over my bathtub, then I hang my damp clothing on hangers and hang them on the shower curtain rod.

I'm extremely pleased with the BaseCamp Single Tub Portable Washing Machine. It gets my clothes very clean and it takes a lot less time for my clothes to dry than it did when I was washing by hand. Plus it doesn't use as much water as the washing machine in my basement does per gallon of water used/per clothing ratio.

Before anyone starts thinking this review is biased, I'll have you know that I had planned on buying it after Christmas, anyway. It has all the specs I was looking for - compact, easy enough to pick up on my own and low voltage. Had my clothes not come out cleaner than they did when I washed by hand, you would have heard about it!! My 77 year old mom has even praised how clean her clothes are after watching them wash, and that's saying something!!

I plan on using my "grey water" (dirty, soapy water) to wet my garden this coming spring in 2018! I've done my research on this. People living in drought ridden states could really benefit from using this BaseCamp Single Tub Washing Machine. As well as anyone who has mobility issues!!
